Individual Therapy in Etobicoke and Online Across Ontario
Something has been sitting with you for a while. Maybe it has a name (anxiety, low mood, burnout, a relationship that keeps going sideways) and maybe it doesn't yet. Individual therapy is a regular hour where you get to look at it properly, with someone trained to help you make sense of it.
I'm Emma, a Registered Nurse Psychotherapist. I work from an office in Etobicoke and by secure video with clients anywhere in Ontario.
Who this is for
People dealing with anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, stress, substance use, or the aftermath of something hard. People who feel fine on paper and still feel off. First-time therapy clients who want a clear explanation of how this works before they commit. You do not need a diagnosis or a referral to book.
What sessions look like
The first session is mostly listening. I want to understand what brought you in, what you have already tried, and what a good outcome would look like for you. From there we agree on a direction. I draw on CBT, DBT, ACT, psychodynamic work and mindfulness, and I pick the approach based on you rather than running everyone through the same script. Sessions are weekly or biweekly to start. Most people know within three or four sessions whether it is working.
Pricing
60 minutes: $130. 90 minutes: $195. Psychotherapy delivered by a Registered Nurse is HST-exempt. Many extended health plans cover RN psychotherapy. Check your plan for "psychotherapy" or "registered nurse" coverage; I provide receipts you can submit.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a referral to see a psychotherapist in Ontario?
No. You can book directly. A referral is only needed if your insurance plan requires one, which is rare for psychotherapy.
Is a Registered Nurse Psychotherapist the same as a psychologist?
No. Psychologists hold a doctorate and can diagnose. An RN Psychotherapist is a nurse registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario who is authorized to provide psychotherapy. The therapy itself uses the same evidence-based methods (CBT, DBT, ACT). Sessions are HST-exempt and often covered under nursing or psychotherapy benefits.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on what you are working on. Some people come for 6 to 10 sessions around a specific problem. Others stay longer. We check in on progress regularly so you are never paying for sessions you do not need.
Are virtual sessions as effective as in person?
For most concerns, yes. Research on video-based CBT shows comparable outcomes to in-person care. If you would rather be in a room, the Etobicoke office is an option.
What happens in the free consultation?
A 20-minute call. You tell me what is going on, I tell you how I would approach it, and we both decide if it is a fit. No pressure to book after.
